Thee

1980

Right at the beginning of summer vacation, Nick finishes up in the downstairs bathroom and passes by Tim staring at the TV on the couch, through the kitchen, past Irene, to get to his bike in the garage, singing,

"Nothing is too difficult for mee-eee."

"Nick-" his mom turns from the sink.

"Sweetie..." she looks away in thought, "do you know what the words to that are?"

His ears get slightly red and warm. Unable to think of a response he just looks at her.

She looks away again and sighs slightly. "It's sung to God, Thee, nothing is to difficult for Thee."

Nick thinks for a moment, as in "The God?"

Irene has to think for a minute. "I suppose you wouldn't quite understand yet, it's an old kind of language, thee and thou like in the Bible."

"Oh."

"Sweetie don't worry about it, you just caught me off guard."  She tries to pull him in but he slips away, "gonna ride my bike, Mom."

"Okay just here in the block and check in before long okay?"

"I will."
